HORSE OWNERSHIP

Basic Criteria

All horse owners must be registered as Club members in order to race their horses in Royal Sabah Turf Club .

Registration Criteria

  • Must be above 21 years age
  • Good financial standing and not bankrupt
  • No criminal record which is considered by the management committee to be relevant to his status at time of application

Required Documents

  • Completed application form for registration as owner/RSTC subscribed member
  • 2 Passport photos
  • Photocopy of identity card

TYPES OF OWNERSHIP

There are two ways by which you can become a proud owner of a racehorse at the Royal Sabah Turf Club. One is by owning the horse in your own name as the sole proprietor and the other is by way of a partnership. A partnership allows you to share the horse and also the winnings with as many as 10 of your friends. Partners will need to nominate a Manager to represent the partnership. The Manager will be responsible for managing the affairs of the partnership.

BUYING HORSES

Buying a horse is one of the most important steps in becoming a successful owner or you can breed one yourself by using our stud service if you already own horses. It is very vital that you obtain the best advice and information about the horse and its bloodline when buying a racehorse. It is important to seek the advice of a professional racehorse trainer with a lot of experience and knowledge in local and international racing and he can assist you to make the best selection according to your budget. You can also engage the services of a Bloodstock Agent who will guide you to the various auctions sales and advise you on the pedigree and bloodline of the horses. If you are more interested in smaller horses (ponies), you can easily source around locally or import them in. Importation of horses is subjected to DVS(Sabah)'s approval and owners are also adviced to seek the Club's clearance before importing the horse. Once you have successfully become a horse owner, you will have to register yourself as a subscribed member of Royal Sabah Turf Club. Upon approval of the registration, your horse can be registered to race.

RACING COLOURS SELECTION

The racing colours proudly represent a horse owner and his horse. The colours are worn as the jockeys' silks and caps for easy identification during a race. Owner need to register at least one set of racing colours to represent you or your partnership. As you may have more than one horse in a race, you can register more than one set of racing colours. Your racing colours are unique and cannot be used by any other person. All registrations of new colours are done through the Racing Department
